The Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC) is an academic competition connecting the best and brightest students of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Throughout the five-day event, students practice sportsmanship, network with peers and alumni, and test their knowledge of history, science, religion, pop culture, literature, and the arts. Quiz bowl teams from forty-eight HBCUs gather at the Honda campus in Torrance, California, for the HCASC National Championship Tournament. We’ve partnered with American Honda Motor Co. on this event since 2014.

Communicating the Significance

This isn’t just a story about who wins the event: it’s about everyone who participates, the schools they come from, their academic team experiences, the alumni and volunteers. For this reason, an excellent interview process is essential. Not only do the interviews assist us in learning more about the participants, but also in communicating the significance of the event itself to the community at large. We actively listen to the interviewee and intentionally cultivate a conversation about their passions and dreams.

Over the past five years, we’ve been able to streamline our process; we know what to expect and what challenges we may have to face. We’re able to learn from our experiences each year and explore a variety of visual techniques that allow each year’s video to be unique and compelling.
